FAQ

Questions about eJuke

Will you sell advertising on my eJuke? Do you require my fans to register with your site?

No, we do not and will not insert any adverts or messages on your eJuke, except for the footer which is a link back to eJukes.com. As for login, we do not offer any membership that would require a login for listeners. Anyone with your unique link is able to listen and use your eJuke.

Um, I have like 8 albums and 74 songs, so pretty sure even the Ultra account ain’t big enough for me k.

Sure it is! An eJuke is for playing singles, or samples from your albums. You can enter all of them, and then alter which ones are ‘active’ so they show on your ejuke. The liner notes can reference where to listen to more. And, if you do have a Pro or Ultra account, you can set a track to lead to a purchase / download of an album.

I never heard of eJukes before. I don’t see how I should trust you / it.. In fact, my partner likes to joke, that when I’m not railing against the concentration of wealth in this country, I’m criticizing new companies for not being rich and well-known!

Understandable, comrade. Your music is important and likely took many hours to write, record, and embellish with designs. The founders themselves are musicians, and have experience toiling in ProTools, Photoshop, and other software to get a record perfected to their eyes and ears; thus, becoming sensitive and concerned about what becomes of it.

The good news is that eJukes harnesses the power of established, successful companies Dropbox and Google. We do not interfere with your files; we merely read them and make them spin. Your files remain on Dropbox so long as you have them there. We create and maintain for you a Google spreadsheet to store each of your track’s information.

eJukes is hosted by world-class server specialists GoDaddy.com. Think of it as ingenious code written by a longtime coder (7 years at The New York Times) who has pulled together the strengths of stalwart companies, and follows industry best-practices, because he wants fellow musicians to let their music spin. Send specific concerns via a note to your host and founder, Matt.

I think it would be fun to play some songs from my personal collection. Songs I’ve paid for and play on my computer. Can I add these so I can listen to them in my eJuke?

Yes, but only for your own enjoyment. You must keep your eJuke unpublished if it contains tracks that you do not have permission to stream. A published eJuke is only for artists to offer to the public their own songs which they hold the rights to represent and distribute. Violating this policy leads to account suspension.

I was just registering at Admin, and see I must enter an Instagram account. Why? Don’t you know they’re owned by Facebook? I stopped using it!

We take care to verify the identity and ownership rights of the music shared through our services. Knowing your IG handle helps in that regard.

My altruism is such that I didn’t even consider adding a PayPal account so I can offer quarters and downloads for sale. But now I’m thinking, hec, it’s a solid deal : I would get all the funds, instantly, minus Paypal’s take which is like 2.9% or something. How can I add this feature, and would my fans rebel at my lack of benevolence?

We feel you, amigo. We all wish to be benevolent and non-commercial, but also seek monetary compensation to live in our material world. We don’t think it’s mutually exclusive to sell things and to be a good person. For each of us, it’s a journey of trial and error, finding the right balance. If you don’t already have a Pro or Ultra account, read about those plans and upgrading. If you upgraded but chose not to sell yet, you can inquire by sending a note using the Contact page in Admin.

I’m ready to set up my catalog but need an Invite Code.

Use the code SPINCITY if you don’t already have one.

What kind of stats can we expect to see in Admin?

All accounts see a log of Quarter Redemptions. This shows the time the quarter was redeemed, in what city, which of your tracks was selected. You can also click to see the Quarter details (a picture of the coin that was redeemed, its year and serial number, and what time it was obtained).

Accounts that sell (requires Pro or Ultra) will see logs of Quarters purchased and Downloads purchased. You’ll see the time, place of purchase, and the fan’s name and email. You also get a sum total of dollars earned per quarters and downloads.

An eJuke seems like a good deal. You put a lot of work into this, and keep things interesting with new disc styles and light shows each month. All the same, my belief system forbids me from paying a dime for services, and yet the Free Basic account isn’t enough. How can you accommodate me?

We offer 5 scholarships each month for a year of free eJuke Pro service to artists. The deadline is the 25th of each month. Send your essay to Matt.

I’m not overly pleased with this month’s visual options for disc color and light show. I have some ideas that would really Pop, with my tunes in particular you know. So, can you add a new disc color or light show?

We welcome ideas for disc colors and light shows. Send a note to Matt.

How many tracks can we have?

You can enter any number of tracks. But, the system will only read the first X number of active tracks. X depends on your account level. For Basic, X = 3; for Pro, X=12; for Ultra, X is 45.

Some of my boss tracks don’t have cover art. What should I do?

You could use the album’s cover if that exists, but that might get repetitive. For help making a cover, we have found the free Canva service to be .. boss.

I see in Admin that we can add a logo which gets imprinted on our discs and shows in our welcome message. But, I never thought of having a logo! How would I ever make one?

Making one can be as simple as opening MS Paint and typing your name. Or find an online logo generator. We found a couple that work well: Canva, and Looka
